So-called "debate" over the important issues of the day is conducted almost entirely behind closed doors, out of view of the public and the media. Legislators react to news of a budget deficit with proposals for tax hikes and hundreds of millions of dollars in new spending, while the tough political choices necessary to bring our state’s fiscal situation under control go ignored.
